Black Ops
« on: October 30, 2015, 08:52:19 PM »
Got to drill and roll a Black Ops for the first time today. It's not often I come immediately to ballreviews to talk about a ball, but I had to with this one.

Layout is 50 x 5 1/4 x 40.
Tilt: 10
Rotation: 70
Revs: 375-400
Speed- 16-16.5 on screen (down lane)
Pap: 4 1/2 right, 3/4 up.

On my house's heavyish volume THS, this ball is something else. There wasn't much for midlane movement, but I could see the ball reading the midlanes well. Almost like it was setting itself up for a big turn at the breakpoint. I wouldn't quite say it was skid-snappy, but it gave me a really hard arcing backend motion. Plenty of recovery when I got it outside too far or too quickly. Hit and carry was impressive.

At the point, the only criticism I could possibly come up with, is referring to it as a "heavy oil" ball. It could be I think, with the right surface and layout, but out of the box I would say it's closer to medium-medium/heavy. That's looking for something I don't like about it though. To be honest, it's an excellent ball in my mind, and I'm really excited about throwing it more.

As a bonus, it's probably the best looking all black bowling ball I've ever seen :)

Kid, glad you're liking what you saw! Can't wait to see what you think of the Big. For me, even with it being sanded, my On is harder off the spot than my Ops, and my Dream is even harder than that. Big will be smoother with it being 79.

That's almost exactly how I feel about the Polish. It serves its purpose well at that finish, as long as you know when to put it away. Part of me wants to knock off the Polish to make it usable for longer, but I like the reaction so much as is its hard to convince myself to do it.

Are the layouts similar on the Blops and Dream?

Matt it would be an easy ball to have two for that reason.

In ways. Both have about a 5-5.25" pin to pap.

The black ops had a longer pin so it is drilled about 50ish x 5 x 35ish
The dream had a shorter pin and is roughly           60ish x 5 x 50ish

I actually have a Black Eagle that is 50x5x65 and I keep that with some surface. The 2 contrast very well. I also have a War Eagle that is less than the Ops, and have a NIB WE and Break Point Solid in hiding. :)

Just figure I would update.  Must have been the way the shot broke down the week before making the dark matter stronger than the black ops. Actually threw both on the fresh last Thursday. The black ops is definitely the stronger piece.  The dark matter covered equal boards for me but was more of that symmetrical type reaction in the backend.

How would the Break Out compliment the Black Ops? I don't hear anything about it.

I love my Break Out. I don't and won't have a Black Ops but based on what I've read, the Break Out is about 2 feet earlier than Black Ops. Of course, drilling and surface changes can change all that but OOB is what I'm basing it off of.

Used mine this past week for 3 games during league and was extremely pleased. The ball had about 5 games prior to that night and was still at box finish. Was able to stay further right almost the entire set and had a great look with great carry.

The closest thing I can compare it to is my LT48. This being stronger and a little bit earlier on the lane( big difference in layouts) I think on the same layout they would be a mirror image of each other with the Black Ops being the bigger hooking ball over all.

Hope to make a short video with it this weekend during practice.

Are you guys talking about the "Break Out" or the Break Down?
