For me it was the Ebonite Thunderbolt. Those glory days.(to much Bourbon) This is beginning to sound like Al Bundy and "Polk High"

Sorry guys....

The first Beast that hit the market was purple and was urethane!!

AS mentioned before you could tell by the length of the teeth if it was urethane or resin.

There were later beast models that were also urethane and they were blue.

My favorite was the Original Track Enforcer--before Columbia got hold of Track. The blue one, strong like bull!

Yellow Dot and Black Angle.

The good thing about Pre-Resin balls is that unlike todays equipment,it was much easier to tell when you bowled a good ball and something that was less than perfect, which back in the day was quite often when I was on the lanes.

Some would say nothing has changed.

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

My favs in no particular order are Columbia wine Udot, Ebonite Turbo X, and a ball my dad gave me, a Brunswick Trac-Master dark blue rubber.

Cant believe nobody suggested the Roto-Grip Grenade... I kinda liked that thing although it was one ugly piece.

Columbia:
-Black Knight (dry to medium oily conditions)
-Black U Dot (oily to medium conditions)
-Red U Dot (medium to oily conditions)
-Blue Dot (dry conditions)

Hammer:
-Blue Pearl (all conditions, except super oily and super dry)
-Black (medium to heavy conditions)

Brunswick:
Black Beauty (medium dry to medium oily conditions)
LT-48 (medium to oily conditions)
Black Rhino (medium to oily conditions)

AMF:
Black Angle (medium to oily conditions)

Loved every single one of those balls, but if I had to choose one, it would likely be the Blue Pearl Hammer, since I could play it on just about any condition, and it was a ball that always hit hard, whether the lanes were oily or on the drier side.  I still have 2 in my collection.

No offense, but I'm going to have to ask you to prove that. I'm looking at both the entire Beast list on Bowling Ball Reviews and the USBC Approved Ball List, and the original purple Beast is reactive on both lists. It was approved March 1992, well ahead of any other model in the Beast line. There is no mention of a urethane model on either list.

The next in the Beast line came out in June 1994, and that was the Blue Beast (urethane model).

There were only two other non-reactive Beast balls released and approved: The C-Beast, released and approved April 1996, and the Beast Polyester, released and approved in August 1996. There was a purple version of the Beast Polyester, but again that was four years after the original came out so the issue is moot.

Unless someone can produce materials from Columbia 300 that say otherwise, there is no evidence a urethane Beast predated a reactive Beast.

I hate to be the one, but I've gotta agree with Jess here.

Oh, and to answer the question, Red Pearl Hammer.

Trying to get you a papertrail on this one but I just spoke with the East Coast Columbia rep who also drilled out on the ladies tour back in the day and he also agrees we me that there was a purple urethane Beast that predated the resin model and that you could tell by the length of the fangs.

Since this was pre internet era I will attempt to find you the "proof" you need.
