God I hate Fedex (Rant) UPDATED
« on: July 05, 2006, 07:28:10 AM »
I think when buying balls online, I'm gonna have to start asking what company will be used first. If its fedex, no thanks!

First of all, I use nothing but UPS when I ship because there is a UPS Store here in town. The nearest Fedex ground/Home delivery terminal is about 1 hour away. Sure fedex may save you a couple dollars per package, but they screw up all the time. Out of the last 10 times I have received packages via fedex, at least 4 of those times they either lose my package or put it on the wrong truck and it ends up at the wrong terminal or they say the barcode is unreadable and it sits for a day or 2 before they replace it. I'm just tired of all their fvckups!! UPS does not have this many problems.

Right now I'm waiting on a ball from Ike that was shipped on 6/28/06 and it was scheduled to be delivered today 7/5/06. Thats already a long transit time. Now this morning I tracked it and it ended up going to Raleigh NC instead of Greenville NC. Raleigh is less than 45 minutes from me but my packages usually come from Geenville. I called fedex to see why it was in Raleigh. It was put on the wrong truck. I asked if I could just come pick it up and they tell me no. They are gonna put it back on another truck and pass right by my city and take it another hour on the other side of me to Greenville and then greenville will deliver it 2 days later. New delivery date will be 7/7/06.

Like I said, this is about the 4th time I have had problems with fedex out of the last 10 times. I have grown to hate them with a passion!

Has anyone else ever had this many problems with them?

Tim,
Sorry to hear of your issues with Fed Ex; I'm very fortunate that I've only had one issue with them (ball arrived damaged and I'm working through the claim process now).

I would be able to deal with it better if their Customer Service was worth a damn. They are no help and very short with you. Just ready to get you off the phone so they can get back to talking with their freinds on the phone.

You all have probably read my Fed Ex rants over the past few months...  basically, I spent roughly $1500 in 2005 shipping through FedEx exclusively.  I think during that time period I had to file two or three claims on packages that were lost or damaged.  It was an inconvenience, but happens.  Next, I ship a package to Canada and FedEx neglects to charge the recipient the appropriate fees for customs and taxes.  They claim they attempted to collect money for the recipient, but were unable and therefore it was MY responsibility.  I called "customer dis-service" several times (which was a big loop as I was forwarded from one office to another) and it was like talking to a wall.  Besides being able to recite a "2-font sized" disclaimer in their shipping policy, they were totally useless.  I requested either the charges ($75 "customs" charge on my account from an $8 shipment) be waived or my account cancelled.  They wouldn't budge, so I cancelled my account and have been giving them the best advertisement possible...word of mouth.  Stay away from them.  I have been using UPS now for four months...

FedEx completely screwed up a ball purchase I made recently. Their customer service is terrible, always has been. Not to mention they lost two of my wife's Christmas presents -- never did find one of them.

UPS, meanwhile, has given me problems on a whopping total of two shipments in 16 years. FedEx has messed up somewhere between a third and a half of everything I've shipped/received. Go UPS if at all possible.

There are exceptions to all rules. The vast majority of packages arrive on time from all the carriers. Everyone experiences issues. What separates FEDEX from everyone else is the fact that they track the packages and know where they are at all times. No other carrier does this. Sure if the lable comes off or the box is damaged (and I believe a 15 lbs ball inside a weak box might cause freguent damage). I have shipped many single balls from several carriers and have experienced these issues. But when I ship a 4 ball box, I have never experienced an issue with FEDEX. I once shipped a $1000 amp from a certified dealer using UPS overnight and it took 3 weeks and I had to drive to the truck 30 miles away because no one from UPS could find my address and I get mail everyday.

How do you figure? UPS tracks their packages and know where their at at all times too. UPS does'nt seem to have a problem keeping the labels on their boxs. Maybe b/c they don't throw them around and run over them with the trucks?

UPS ships via fedex through the air. UPS trucks bring packages to FEDEX airplanes and picks them up and delivers them. They piggyback on the FEDEX tracking system

I don't know about all that, but I know UPS still tracks all their stuff even when its on the UPS trucks from terminal to terminal until it says on truck out for delivery and as soon as they leave the package at the residence it will say deliverd.

I have had many more problems with UPS ground than Fed Ex over the past 2 years. I personally have a Fed ex account and a Kinkos on my way to work and I can drop my packages off there. The closest UPS place (UPS Store) upcharges about 20% so thats out for me.

There is always a possibility of having problems with any courier you pick, regardless if its UPS, Fed Ex or DHL. The only one I never use is the US Mail.

To me its not that big of a deal if something is a couple days late, as long as it gets to me undamaged. Thats whats important to me..

Yes, and I believe that the exception is when they DO deliver on time and in good condition.

Out of the five balls I have had shipped to me by fed-ex ( f'ing-ex if you ask me!), one got here when it was supposed to. Two were sent to the wrong city and took 3 extra days to get to me, one was two weeks late because they couldn't find it, and the last one never got here.  I live in East Texas and they found the EMPTY box on the loading dock in SEATTLE WASHINGTON! That was a bit odd, being as it was coming from St. Louis.  What damn plane did they put it on to get to Washington state instead of Texas?

Like the original poster said, If the shipper is using fed-ex, I will request an alternative shipper.  If the answer is no, THEN I DO NOT BUY!

Update:

Well fedex told me earlier today that I could not come and pick the package up in Raleigh and that they were gonna put it on a truck to Greenville which is the terminal that actually delivers back to me. Well Geenville is southeast of Raleigh by about 1-1/2 hours. I just checked the tracking again and they put it on a truck and took it back to Durham!! That is heading back northwest What the HE11 is wrong with these peckerheads?!? This is crazy!

The company I work for does Millions of dollars in Fed Ex shipments each year.  I will tell you this; Fed Ex itself is a great company, Fed Ex ground is not directly connected with any other Fed Ex department.  They are there own seperate entity.  They are making a bad name for the entire Fed Ex Family  Fed Ex overnight, 2 and 3 day services are excellent.  Ground is absolutely terrible.  SO bad, that customers are demanding Ground Shipments by UPS only.  Let Fed Ex know the issues you have been having with the Ground Service.  If we all chip in, they might actually do something.  They have seen my companies numbers go down in the past year, and they have definitley started taking notice.

If someone decided not to buy one of my bowling balls because I use fed ex, I personally think thats riduculous but to each his own.. I will eventually sell it to someone, I am sure of that..

Like I said, I have used fed ex ground exclusively for about 2 years and had 3 or 4 small problems (delay in shipment) and I have had UPS Ground lose 2 balls shipped to me and I mean completely lose them.. Thats NEVER happened with Fed ex for me..

ALL of the delivery companies have a chance of screwing up and like I said before, if a ball is delayed a day or so, whats the big deal..
